Youtube

Do you have a YouTube account? Have you wondered how to make money off of YouTube, even if you are not one of the few YouTube “celebrities?” How can you make money serving up videos online to YouTube?

With the help of Google Analytics, you can turn a pretty penny on one of the world’s most popular user-generated video content web sites.

YouTube is one of the most popular web sites online. Every day, millions of people logon to watch clips of their favorite web comedians, or other random videos generated by the huge YouTube user community.

Some people have found a way to monetize their YouTube by creating a YouTube channel that serves up advertisements that pay the user every time he or she encourages a viewer to click on his or her video. For example, Google’s AdSense program has long offered contextualized advertisements for YouTube videos.

However, how are you supposed to make money on YouTube if you are not one of the few YouTube “celebrities?” Unless you already have a huge viewer audience, which takes months (if not years) to build, the few pennies you make off of ads will hardly make it worthwhile.

Thankfully, a new tool released at the end of March 2008 allows you to analyze your YouTube audience and figure out what appeals to viewers. In this way, you can direct your videos at niche markets or certain demographics where you have a higher chance of being successful, thus boosting your viewers exponentially and making money off of YouTube.

This new tool is called YouTube Insight. YouTube Insight harnesses the power of Google Analytics, a tool that Google’s AdSense and AdWords advertising business has long offered webmasters who used its services. Just like Google Analytics, Google’s YouTube Insight tool is great for YouTube video creators to see a breakdown in YouTube traffic to popular videos–data that has never been offered before with such simplicity and ease of use!

YouTube Insight lets you see certain data about popular videos on YouTube. For example, you can breakdown YouTube video traffic into its various geographic locations so you can see where viewers are coming from. For example, you can breakdown your YouTube audience by states (in the United States). You can also compare the popularity and audience numbers of videos in comparison to other similar videos over a historical timeline, as well as a sort of analytical forecast on when a video will become popular on YouTube. Practically speaking, let’s create a scenario. Let’s say you survey your YouTube Insight analytical data and discover that your videos are most popular on certain days. You can then ensure that you have new content uploaded before hand, so that on those days you maximize your videos’ potential.

“With this information, you can concentrate on creating compelling new content that appeals to your target audiences,” says YouTube’s blog (source).

YouTube Insight is free and available to anyone who owns a YouTube video account. At the moment, you can pull up YouTube Insight data by going to “My Account” and navigating to your “Manage my Videos” page.

So how does this make you money on YouTube? As Google puts it, YouTube “Insight gives the creators an inside look into the viewing trends of their videos on YouTube, and helps them to increase views and become more popular” (source). The more views you get as your YouTube video’s popularity soars, the greater the revenue your YouTube video will earn as more people click on your account.

With Google’s data and YouTube Insight, you can capitalize the monetary value of your YouTube account. Making money on YouTube has never been easier!
